According to a blog article by WhatsApp, “Your avatar is a digital image of you that can be constructed from billions of combinations of different hairstyles, facial characteristics, and clothes” (opens in new tab).
Avatars were officially released after extensive beta testing, which began in October for some beta testers. Some information regarding the functionality was revealed in this, such as the fact that avatars produce a Bitmoji-like sticker pack comparable to Snapchat (or Memoji in the case of Apple).
The social networking giant promises to keep improving avatars, including more customization choices for lighting, shading, and hairstyle textures in the future. Meta positions WhatsApp avatars as a perfect alternative to using your picture as your profile photo, so it “feels more private.”
You can build your digital representation by going to the Settings menu, tapping “Avatar,” and then setting up your avatar(opens in new tab). Simply return to Settings and select your profile photo to make it your profile photo. Then, hit “Use Aavatar” under “Edit.”
WhatsApp is developing new avatar capabilities right now, including the capability for you and your contacts to make multi-character avatar stickers using the avatar of a friend.
However, according to TechCrunch, you are now unable to export your WhatsApp avatar to Facebook or Instagram (opens in new tab). The same applies to using your WhatsApp avatar as your Facebook or Instagram profile photo.
