The most significant security concern that his administration had to deal with, according to the President, was Boko Haram terrorism.
He claimed that normalcy had returned to the region’s impacted states and that he had kept the promise he had made to Nigerians upon taking office in May 2015 kept.
On January 10, 2023, the Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, made this statement on behalf of the President.
President Muhammadu Buhari claims that no one can extort him about his obscene wealth and illegal enrichment while he is in government, claiming that “I do not have one square inch outside Nigeria.”
Speaking at a State banquet held in his honor on Monday night in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, the President reaffirmed his commitment to serve God and Nigeria till the end of his term in office and beyond.
‘As I said more than 30 years ago, we have no other country than Nigeria. We must all stay here and salvage it together,’ he urged, advising Nigerians to remain patriotic.
“Noting that the formidable and pervasive threat of terrorism was the most significant security problem the administration took on nearly eight years ago, the President expressed happiness that normalcy has returned to impacted States in North-East Nigeria.
He recalled that Yobe State was one of the terrorists’ most heavily attacked states and that the threat was particularly ubiquitous throughout the North-East geopolitical zone.
Therefore, he announced that he had fulfilled his promise to Nigerians in his May 29, 2015 inaugural speech to confront Boko Haram terrorists head-on and boldly stabilize the country.
“God has enabled us to defeat Boko Haram in the North-East, the economy has improved, and some people are questioning me about the results of my campaign against corruption.
“Well, it’s not easy to fight corruption under this system. Because the Constitution requires you to declare your holdings, I had to lock up several people while I was in the military as Head of State because they were unable to explain how their assets differed.
Eventually, I was also imprisoned. Therefore, you must be ready for the worst if you wish to serve this country. But one thing for which I am grateful to God is that I am not subject to blackmail. I have no property outside of Nigeria, and when I leave public service, I plan to remain there.
