The live broadcast of the Presidential Election Tribunal, according to the president-elect Bola Tinubu, is an abuse of the legal system.
In response to an application made by PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Tinubu urged the tribunal to disapprove such a course of action.
On the grounds that “the court is not a rostrum or a soapbox and is not also a stadium or theatre,” he pleaded with the judge to reject the application. It’s not a place to enjoy ‘public’ entertainment.
The President-elect contended that the application was outside of the tribunal’s jurisdiction in a counter-affidavit submitted by his attorney, Wole Olanipekun.
He emphasized that Atiku’s concern involved the creation of policies.
The application also discusses the constitutionally granted authority and jurisdiction granted to the President of the Court of Appeals, which this honorable court cannot hear in its current form.
“The application makes reference to administrative duties that are solely the responsibility of the President of the Court of Appeal. The application aims to waste this honorable court’s valuable judicial time.
“The petition that the petitioners filed with this honorable court has nothing to do with the stated application. In the interest of justice, this honorable court should reject the petitioners’ claimed application, he declared.
