Ye has once more been banned from Twitter, this time by Elon Musk, the company’s new CEO.
After posting antisemitic messages, the artist formerly known as Kanye West was initially banned from Twitter in October. The platform was taken over by Musk later in October. Ye was reinstituted in the start of November.
The founder of Tesla again suspended his account on Friday, citing a “violation” of the platform’s policies.
“He went against our policy against inciting violence once more. In response to a user who asked him to “fix Kanye” on Friday, Musk tweeted that the individual’s account will be suspended.”
Ye made several antisemitic remarks during an interview with Alex Jones earlier in the day, and then followed that up with a string of antisemitic tweets.
Following the interview, Parler, a social media platform Ye had been planning to buy, declared it had terminated earlier negotiations to sell Ye the conservative platform on an amicable basis.
The agreement would have allowed Ye access to his own personal platform and a say in how social media commentary is monitored. Ye promised to use Parler to ensure that conservative opinions could be expressed without restriction.
Since his first tweet, Ye has received criticism for several months. Adidas, Gap, and Balenciaga, the fashion label for which he walked the runway during Paris Fashion Week, are among the companies that have severed their connections with him.
In response to Ye’s vile remarks on October 24, Kim Kardashian, his ex-wife with whom he recently finalized a divorce, wrote on Twitter, “I stand together with the Jewish community and call for the awful violence and hateful words towards them to come to an immediate end.”
On October 27, Musk took control of Twitter, emphasizing “free expression.” The CEO of Space X and multibillionaire businessman vowed to relax the platform’s limitations on content. Following his takeover, Twitter unlocked a number of accounts that had previously broken its rules, including the account of former president Donald Trump.
In an October statement, Musk stated that “free expression is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy” and that “Twitter is the digital town square where things crucial to the survival of humanity are argued.”
