The president remarked this while praising Major General Mohammed Usman, the Brigade of Guards’ recently promoted commander, for his work.

On December 28, 2022, he announced this shortly after decorating Usman during a brief ceremony in the Presidential Villa.

This was said in a press release headed, “President Buhari decorates newly promoted Commander, Brigade of Guards,” and carried the signature of Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.

Buhari praised Usman and declared himself “totally satisfied” with him, saying that the Commander’s presence had prevented anyone from touching him (Buhari).

No one has been able to touch me while you are here, the president declared. My appreciation for your performance is unwavering.

The officer was awarded the rank of Major General by Buhari with the help of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, and the Commander’s wife, Dr. Rekiya Usman.

The President said in a speech shortly after the event that Usman was very blessed to have reached the pinnacle of his military career with honor and without hiccups because his military career had been defined by coups, countercoups, and detention.

He praised General Usman for his assiduity, allegiance, perseverance, and hard work.

Buhari’s words:

“You are extremely fortunate to be healthy and able to complete your duties.

“Those who work with me are aware of how challenging I am to please. But I’ve never had any cause at all to bring you up with the Minister of Defense or the Chief of Army Staff.
