The Presidency launched an attack against former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday over the latter’s New Year’s open letter in which he publicly endorsed Mr. Peter Obi, the nominee of the Labour Party, in the election scheduled for February 25.
In the letter, Obasanjo voiced harsh criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and advised Nigerian young to vote for Mr. Obi in the upcoming election in order to control their own future.
The Presidency responded to the former President’s claim that Nigerians were suffering under Buhari’s rule by describing Chief Obasanjo as a disgruntled individual who was morally wrong to criticize the ruling party.
According to a statement from the Presidency by Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Obasanjo’s administration from 1999 to 2007 “represent[ed] the dark days of Nigeria’s democracy due to a slew of assaults on the constitution,” as the Presidency had previously stated.
The statement that “former President Obasanjo is so well-known to everyone that no one needs to describe who he is” served as the foundation for its response.
One of them is that he won’t stop criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari because the outgoing leader will never stop being envious of anyone who surpasses him in the country’s growth.
After three decades of broken promises, President Buhari recently finished the Second Niger Bridge, a structure of the highest caliber. It is now waiting to be put into service.
In his first tenure as president after being elected, Obasanjo planted the bridge’s sod, but construction never began.
He went back to the construction site to turn the sod for the bridge a second time when he ran for re-election for a second term in office.
“Obasanjo told the leading Southeast traditional ruler that he was a liar, in full view of the Chiefs and Oracles in his palace, when the frank and learned Obi of Onitsha reminded him that he had done this in the past.
“Obasanjo misled the Southeast in order to win their support. Despite not receiving their votes, President Buhari nonetheless built the bridge because he thought it was the proper thing to do.
The Presidency further stated that Obasanjo was irritated by the praise and recognition that President Buhari is receiving on a global scale, particularly due to his adamant stance that the country’s constitution should be honored with reference to the tenure of government.
“Two, President Buhari has been winning honors and praise for attempting to do what the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution states a leader should do: serve one, or a maximum of two terms, and then leave.
speaking to
Because tenure elongation was unsuccessful, Obasanjo’s imaginary imagination must be convincing him that he is the target of the attack.
He is not, however, on President Buhari’s radar because history has proven that a third term or tenure extension is a recipe for political instability, particularly recently in West Africa where there have been at least three successful coups and numerous other failed attempts.
“In addition, President Buhari was named the continent’s anti-corruption champion by all African presidents.
