The driver of the Lagos State Government employee bus who was involved in the Thursday accident at the PWD/ Shogunle railway line on the Agege motorway in Lagos that resulted in a train colliding with the vehicle has asked for the victims’ forgiveness.

According to some survivors, Oluwaseun Osinbajo, 44, was driving with his earpiece in while disobeying the flag officers’ orders at the train line. This is according to The PUNCH. The bus’s mechanical malfunction, according to the driver, was to blame for the event.

It was also reported that the driver, who is employed by the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, has been moved to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department.

“I’m not to blame. How could I have disregarded the signs? He was quoted as saying by The Vanguard newspaper, “The bus experienced a mechanical issue.

“It’s unfortunate that this occurred. In the name of God, I humbly beg you all to pardon me.

The PUNCH states that the train lines just across from the PWD Bus Station, Shogunle, Ikeja, were covered in dried blood, broken glass, and twisted metal plates.

Sweaty faces, exhausted breaths, and bloodied bodies struggled to escape the cramped car and reach the rays of the rising sun overhead.

Residents earlier witnessed in horror as a staff bus carrying people traveling from Ikotun to the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, crashed with an approaching train, forcing the occupants several meters away before coming to a stop.

Also, Saturday PUNCH learned that the BRT driver had entered the rail track despite warnings from level crossing flaggers and other drivers not to do so because a train was approaching.

Many of the casualties were transported by emergency personnel to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja GRA.

In the bus, about 79 of the 85 passengers were revived, treated for various wounds, and then transported to Gbagada General Hospital, Agege General Hospital, and the trauma center near the state’s toll gate.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that 85 persons were involved in the accident, of them 42 had moderate injuries, 29 had serious injuries, and eight had mild injuries in a press conference shortly after visiting the injured at LASUTH.
