The unexpected elimination of fuel subsidies by the Nigerian government prompted the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) to issue a statewide directive ordering its members to resign from their positions.
The NUEE advised its members to follow the order and stop working starting in the early hours of Wednesday in a notice that was signed by Dominic Igwebike, the organization’s acting general secretary.
In his inaugural speech on Monday at Eagle Square in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu proclaimed that the petroleum subsidy scheme will end because it was unsustainable.
