The command also said that it produced N7.02 billion over the last four months, an increase of 5% over the N6.8 billion recorded in 2022.

In response to the news, Comptroller Mohammed Gidado, the Customs Area Controller, said that November 2022 will go down in history as another productive month for MMIA Command.

This was stated in a statement on the command’s actions for the month of November 2022 that its public relations officer, Juliana Tomo, provided to Vanguard.

In this November review, the command brought in the sum of N1.9 billion, a considerable increase of N351 million over the money brought in in October 2022, according to the statement.

“In four months, the Command brought in N7,02 billion, an increase over the N6.8 billion in revenue brought in during the same period in 2021.

In order to carry out the mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service, which includes the interception of contrabands, examination of travelers and their luggage, cargo, and mails, assessment and collection of customs duty and other statutory taxes on goods and services, and protection of businesses against illegal trade practices through the application of existing laws such as Sections 150 and 161 of the Customs and Excise Management Act CAP C45 Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 (Through a “Seamless Clearance Procedure,” we were able to clear both accompanied and unaccompanied baggage with higher success.

“We urged sister agencies at the MMIA to work with the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure that all potential entry points that could lead to revenue leakages are blocked.

“Recall that the CAC had assured all voluntary compliance persons a good travel experience in the clearance of their shipment in October this year. We would like to make public knowledge that there has been a positive difference in the integrity of passengers’ declaration of goods in the preceding Month (November 2022) under review.”
