The 94-year-old Yoruba chieftain claimed that the endorsement of Labour Party presidential candidate Obi by former President Olusegun Obasanjo did not surprise him.
He claims that Obasanjo has consistently favored a power transfer to the South-East in the name of justice, equity, and equity.
Adebanjo warned Nigerians in an interview with Daily Trust that if they cast their ballots anywhere than in Obi, things will get bad for their country. Anything other than Obi puts us in danger.
The elderly man added that there is no justification for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar to run for president given that the region to the southeast has never given rise to a leader.
“How do you intend to defend Tinubu when Obasanjo had been in office for eight years? Or how do you defend Atiku when another another Northerner departs the building? That is the essence of the situation. He asked, “Is South-East not a part of Nigeria? The South-West has done, the South-South has done.
When asked if Obasanjo would be successful in persuading voters in the southwest to support Obi, Adebanjo responded that those who hold to principles will support the LP candidate.
Don’t bring up ethnicity, he commanded. In my statement, I stated it. I should back Tinubu if the issue is one of ethnicity. Although I appointed him governor, I do not support him for president. The Yoruba don’t defraud others.
“We cannot discuss a united Nigeria without first addressing the South-East. I do not want to keep Nigeria, unlike Atiku. How is that possible when a portion of Nigeria is being denied its rights?
Remember that Obasanjo just claimed he can’t be threatened because of his choice of a presidential candidate. He announced his support for Obi in a letter on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
