When he passed away: According to his family, Colonel Obi, who presided as the military governor of Osun State from August 1996 to August 1998, passed away on January 1, 2023, on Saturday.
“We, the Family of His Excellency, Rtd Colonel Anthony Uzoma Obi, respectfully announce the peaceful departure of our Patriarch and Head of the Family on Saturday, January 1, 2023,” the statement from the family reads.
“Our father served the nation of Nigeria as a two-time military administrator and governor of Osun State and Abia State Nigeria. He was a Lion, a fighter, and a gallant soldier.”
“Anthony Uzoma Obi was a devoted parent who instilled love, discipline, and humility in all he did throughout his time on earth. He was a loving spouse first.
He was the bravest guy we have ever known, and he shared with us a love that was truly expressed throughout his life.
“We kindly request that our family be kept in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult period at this time of loss.
The statement ends, “Adieu Colonel A. U. Obi, your entire family will eternally keep your memory alive, through the grace of God.”
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State expressed his sorrow at the passing of Colonel Anthony Uzoma Obi (rtd), the previous military administrator of the state, characterizing it as a sad death.
In a statement released by the former governor’s chief press secretary, Ismail Omipidan, Governor Oyetola expressed his condolences to the deceased man’s family and praised his services to Osun State governance.
He emphasized that he was one of the founding fathers of the state who gave Nigeria and Osun State in particular his selfless and ardent service.
Oyetola prayed to God to offer the deceased’s soul eternal peace and to give his grieving family, friends, and coworkers the strength to cope with the enormous loss.
