How Wike jabbed Atiku: On Monday, Wike requested that Atiku keep him out of the PDP’s internal struggles.
Wike disparaged Atiku by referencing Obasanjo: Governor Wike claimed that a subpar product is usually hard to sell, in which case former president Olusegun Obasanjo would have recommended Atiku to Nigerians given their working relationship.
What Obasanjo did: Instead of endorsing Atiku, the former president chose to support Peter Obi (Labour Party) as his New Year’s announcement.
Atiku served as Obasanjo’s vice president, which is important. They reportedly had a rocky public relationship, according to history.
Governor Wike’s response to Obasanjo’s selection: Governor Wike stated that something must be seriously wrong if former president Obasanjo had declined to recommend Alhaji Atiku.
Wike was told by Atiku’s campaign that his only transgression was winning a transparent presidential primary.
“Wike served as Rotimi Amaechi’s chief of staff, but Amaechi did not have enough faith in him to give him control.
“I tell him to back anybody he wants to because we won’t put up with his arrogant behavior any longer.
“The question is, is Wike experiencing a problem that Amaechi was not informed of? Why would Prince Uche Secondus, Rt Hon. Austin Okpara, Sen. Lee Meaba, H:E Celestine Omehia, Chief Abiye Sikibo, Sen. George Sekibo, Hon. Chinyere Igwe, etc., desert him for Atiku in an ungraceful manner? There is unquestionably a problem.
