Igbos in Enugu have been persuaded by Bola Tinubu, the APC candidate for the February 25 presidential election, that if they support him, he will give them a piece of the “national cake,” a euphemism for the national budget.
Mr. Tinubu urged Igbos in general and residents of Enugu to support him in order for them to share in the nation’s cake.
“You can only reap the benefits of investing. You will only receive a piece of the national cake if you vote for me, the APC presidential candidate stated.
Speaking specifically about Enugu, Mr. Tinubu pledged to increase the city’s status as an industrial centre.
Any attempt to stand in front of the rushing train, he said, would result in a disaster. He compared his campaign organization to a rolling train that was ready to win the election.
“You cannot obstruct success’s path. Only those who lack knowledge will prevent victory. We are not aiming for a 25% vote share. Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be president of Nigeria when we finish our work, he emphasized.
At the same time, Uche Nnaji, the APC’s nominee for governor of Enugu, Governors Hope Uzodimma, and Governor Umahi spoke to the crowd.
However, they disagreed on the proportion of votes Mr. Tinubu would garner in the South-East.
While Mr. Uzodimma predicted a landslide and Mr. Umahi chose to receive 90% of the votes from the geopolitical zone, Nnaji chose to receive 30% of the votes.
“In order to win, we must support the APC. We are considering 100% of the votes, not 60% or 80% of the ballots, Mr. Umahi remarked.
