In advance of Saturday’s general election, President Muhammadu Buhari stated on Wednesday that he receives guidance from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Buhari spoke as he discussed the upcoming elections with Prof. Mahmoud Yakbub, chairman of INEC, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to Buhari, Yakubu requested the unexpected meeting, and he insisted that it was all done to ensure that the polls went off without a hitch.
When explaining why he arrived a few minutes late to the commissioning and delivery of security equipment worth more than N12 billion to the military and Nigerian Police Force, Buhari also made mention of the meeting.
The INEC has grounded me. You understand that next Saturday is a crucial day for us, and I follow INEC’s orders to ensure that there are no justifications for the election’s failure, Buhari said his guests.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, General Lucky Irabor, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, and Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo were among the attendees at the meeting, which got underway at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
Others include Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, and Yusuf Bichi and Ahmed Abubakar, respectively, the Directors General of the State Security Service and National Intelligence Agency.
