Ayo Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, declared he would back Atiku Abubakar in the next 2023 presidential election on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

This pledge was made by Fayose during an interview with Politics Today on Thursday on Channels Television.

Even if they are in opposing camps ahead of the election next year, Fayose stated he will not stoop to insulting Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the president-elect of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Let me tell you, he continued, if people were expecting me to humiliate Tinubu in order to demonstrate my disapproval of him, I would not do that.

Fayose, a supporter of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, stated that despite their political differences with President Muhammadu Buhari, certain northern governors and politicians avoid using abusive language.

Even if they are from opposing camps, he said Tinubu is a Yoruba leader, and as such, he won’t criticize the former governor of Lagos State. Atiku Abubakar of the PDP is respected in the same manner as the APC leader, according to Fayose.

He continued, “I will never do it if the only way to show to everyone that I am Bola Tinubu’s enemy is to come out as a Yoruba man and bash Bola Tinubu.

The PDP leader also reaffirmed his position on the transfer of power to the nation’s southern region.

According to him, President Buhari, who is from the northern region and is about to finish his second term, should be succeeded as president of Nigeria by someone from the south.

In the wake of the PDP’s presidential primary, Fayose declared that he will continue to support the party, notwithstanding Wike’s feud with Atiku.
