A Mack truck and a Toyota Hiace bus collided on Saturday in the Oniworo region of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leaving at least 10 people reported dead.
Mr. Ahmed Umar, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, verified the event to reporters in Abeokuta.
The accident happened at 4:30 in the morning, according to Umar.
The head of the FRSC highlighted that the trailer’s restriction of the road as well as the bus driver’s excessive speed and loss of control were all factors in the disaster.
He added that the Toyota bus with the registration number KLD 539 XA lost control and collided with the rear of the unregistered vehicle.
“In all, 19 people—13 adults male and 6 adults female—were engaged in the collision.
According to him, “seven male adults, two female adults, and one female kid perished in the collision while two male adults sustained injuries.”
According to Umar, the deceased were placed in the Ipara morgue, while the injured were transferred to Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical care.
The sector commander advised drivers to turn on their headlights whenever it is dark outside.
He advised drivers to constantly post caution signs whenever there was a breakdown on the road, especially truck drivers.
He expressed sympathy to the crash victims’ families and instructed them to get in touch with FRSC Ogunmakin for more details regarding the accident.
