Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate who won the 2023 presidential election, and he advised anyone who felt wronged to file a lawsuit.
The President advised supporters of unsuccessful candidates to file lawsuits rather than protest on the streets.
In a statement read by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, President Buhari expressed his reaction to the results: “I congratulate His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory.
“He was chosen by the people and is the best candidate for the position. I will now cooperate with him and his group to facilitate a smooth transfer of authority.
“The election was the biggest democratic process in Africa.
“This election shows democracy’s enduring relevance and ability to deliver for the people it serves in a region that has experienced backsliding and military coups recently.
The outcomes in Nigeria show that democracy is maturing there.
“The electoral landscape has never changed so significantly in a single cycle. States around the country changed color during the presidential elections.
Some of you may have noted that one of them is my home state.
“Neither the victorious candidate nor his home state were carried. It takes place amid a heated election.
Votes cannot be taken for granted, nor can the people who voted them. Each has to be acquired. We need competition in our democracy.
“There is no doubt that the outcomes we see today reflect the will of the people.
“It does not mean that the exercise was error-free. For instance, there were technical issues with the findings’ electronic transmission.
“Of course, there will be areas that require improvement to further increase the voting process’s credibility and transparency.
