Ayo Makun, better known by his stage as AY Comedian, has spoken out about his ongoing feud with Basket Mouth, a fellow comic.

When he was just starting out in the comedy business, Basketmouth used to help him get connected with events. In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, AY explained how a specific occurrence caused the rift.

“In 2006, (Basketmouth) typically gets gigs like weddings – multiple gigs on a Saturday, maybe two or three weddings,” AY remarked. Therefore, he used to attend one, then later leave the location and catch up at the other location, at which point you would need someone else to fill in for you. That was the chance he gave me, and I am still grateful for it now.

“Now, a funny thing occurred. I received his approval to go fill in at one of the gigs specifically. Normally, we receive N30,000 at such time, and at the moment, that amount meant the world to me. With 30,000, I could buy a pack of indomie, recharge cards, gas for my “I better pass my neighbor” generator, and the chance to hire one or two additional people to perform one or two short skits with me on the spot.

“I got this job, and since they were expecting a Basketmouth to arrive, they weren’t very pleased to see me around the location. To cut a long tale short, the man was pleased with the performance. There was a contact exchange. Then I left.

“I haven’t seen 30k for the past two weeks. I asked for 30K because I couldn’t see the 30K and I was starving in Iponri. He replied that I hadn’t remitted, that I hadn’t paid, that they weren’t happy with me because of this, and other things.

“And after that, I was like, ahhn… But this individual, na, shebi you say you were glad and impressed? Give my oga some cash, have my oga pay me, and all that. For me, it doesn’t matter whether you pay Basket ₦100,000 for the job; my ₦30,000.

Knowing that this complete payment had already been made a long time before the event, it was really humorous to hear from them today.

“Okay, is that the situation, I asked. So I sent this one’s message to this one and the other way around. They consequently started fighting and other things.
